Christmas weddings
in Connecticut
are magical, elegant, and romantic. The holiday season is filled
with love, hope and peace. The family gathers together at this
time of the year, lights twinkle, and everything has a festive air. And, if
you're lucky, everything sparkles with freshly-fallen snow. What a
wonderful time for a wedding!
Decorating can be a snap, as
many venues are
already decorated for the holiday season, with trees, garlands,
poinsettias, and twinkly lights. Whether you choose a
lovely New England chapel, a decked out banquet hall, or a cozy inn with a working
fireplace, just add a few of your own touches, and a
spectacular wedding is yours! Here are few ideas for a
Christmas-themed wedding ceremony:
- Line the entrance with luminaries.
- Have a romantic evening candlelight service.
- Decorate with poinsettias, wreaths, evergreen swags, ribbons,
bows, candles, pinecones, and lots of tiny string lights wrapped
in tulle.
- Arrive by horse-drawn sleigh or carriage, with jingle
bells and a faux fur throw to keep you warm, or in a white
limo decked with wreaths.
- Have an usher hand out small bells to your guests to ring when
you exit as husband and wife.
- Instead of a guest book, have your guests to write their
names and best wishes on Christmas ornaments for your first
Christmas tree!
- Use fake snow for an aisle runner, or have your flower girl
scatter snowflakes.
- For the bride: wear a white gown, possibly with a sash
or red or gold, with a fur
wrap, a long velvet cape, or an elegant white Pashmina
shawl, and carry a bouquet of red roses
or poinsettias- or a white muff.
- For the groom: wear holly or mistletoe in your buttonhole.
- For the bridesmaids: wear red, green, or silver dresses,
and carry candles.
- For the groomsmen: red or green ties to coordinate with
the bridesmaids.
- Have small, silvery sounding bells attached to each
bouquet.
- Have Christmas carols for music- maybe have a group of carolers
or a children's choir. Carolers can greet guests as they
enter, sing during the ceremony, stroll from the ceremony to
the reception, or lead a sing-a-long at your reception.
- Print Christmas song sheets on parchment paper, roll
them up like scrolls, and tie with red velvet ribbons for each
guest to sing along. Favorites such as "Silent
Night," "What Child Is This?", "Walking in a Winter
Wonderland", and "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" all
work well.
- And don't forget to hang mistletoe in the doorways!
