What Is the
CWM Marriage Preparation Course?
Our marriage preparation program consists of
three sessions set in the relaxed atmosphere of our
home. Just the two of you- we do not do group sessions. You will be served coffee, tea and snacks in a romantic, candlelit setting while listening
to practical talks that are informative and fun, mostly
given live, with snippets played on DVD.
Our program is a composite of several resources that we
have found most helpful to couples over the years, but
the majority of our material comes from
The Marriage Preparation Course developed by Nicky
and Sila Lee, authors of The Marriage Book. They are on the staff at Holy
Trinity Brompton - the London church that started the
Alpha course. Thousands of their marriage and marriage
preparation courses are now
running around the world.
The goal of the Marriage Preparation Course is to help
couples lay solid foundations for a marriage that will
last a life-time.
Topics
Session 1- Communication and Commitment.
This session helps couples understand the art of communication for a strong
marriage, and to see how communication is affected by
personality, family background and circumstances.
You will practice talking and (really
J) listening to each other as
you recognize and appreciate your differences.
Commitment is at the very heart of the
marriage covenant and it is reflected in the marriage
ceremony vows. You will consider the
meaning of these vows and then look at how to live out
this commitment through spending quality time with each
other on a regular basis.
Session 2- Resolving Conflict.
Conflict can either destroy a
marriage or, if handled well, strengthen it. Couples
learn how to handle anger, appreciate their
differences, look for solutions together, and practice
forgiveness. Organizing finances, a primary cause of
conflict in marriage, is also addressed.
Session 3- Keeping Love Alive
and Shared Goals and Values.
This session looks at how love must be deliberately
nurtured in a marriage through an ever-growing friendship, discovering
what language makes the
other feel loved, and developing your
relationship on many levels.
While appreciating their
differences, couples need to agree on their goals,
core values. You will have the
opportunity to discuss your priorities and dreams for your future,
the roles you expect to fulfill, and the building of
spiritual togetherness.
Who Is It For?
Do you want to have the best possible start to your
marriage?
If you answered yes, then the CWM Marriage
Preparation Course is for you!
What Can I Expect on the Course?
Our course takes place over three sessions, at dates
and times convenient to you- generally week day evenings. A typical
evening session starts at 7pm and finishes by 9.45pm.
Each session includes:
-
Short, informative talks
to give you the tools you need for a strong marriage.
-
Lots of discussion time as a couple, with
questions and exercises on
each of the topics. Music is played in the
background for privacy and intimacy.
-
Homework - at the end of each session you are given some
homework to do together. This will help you to build on
what you have learned and give you the opportunity to
apply it to your relationship. Don't worry - it won't be
marked! It isn't looked at by anyone else and is just
for your own benefit.
What is the cost? Our fee is $150 for the
three sessions. Included in the cost is a
workbook for each of you.
