Here's what you need to know and
what documents to bring with you
before you apply for a Connecticut
marriage license.
Requirements vary according
to county in Connecticut, so contact the city/town hall
of the city or town you are going to get married in, ask
for the town clerk, and ask for the latest requirements.
Apply for a marriage
license in person at a local vital records office. If
you can't both appear at the same time, you can appear
individually.
You do
not have to be a resident of
Connecticut, but you do need to
apply in either the town where one
of you lives, or in the town where
you plan on getting married.
What to Bring:
Photo ids such as a
driver's license or a passport, or certified copies
of your birth certificates
Your social security
numbers
Both mothers' maiden
names, and your parents' birthplaces.
Date and location of
your wedding
Name and contact
information of your wedding officiant
Fee: $30- $35.
Cash is best.
Previous Marriages:
You will need to show your divorce decree,
annulment paper, or death certificate, if
applicable. If your name has changed,
you will need a certified copy of your
divorce decree.
Age restrictions:
If either bride or groom is under 18, a parent must consent to
the marriage by signing the back of the license. If under 16, a
Probate Judge must also endorse the consent.
That's it!
You're ready to get married! There
is no waiting period, you don't need
witnesses or a blood test, and the marriage
license in Connecticut is valid for 65 days.
Filing the Completed
License:
The officiate who performs the marriage is responsible for
filling out (in black ink) the time and place of the marriage on
the license and returning it to the Town Clerk where the
marriage took place.
Apply for a copy of Your Marriage
License: You can request a copy of the completed marriage license from
the Town Clerk's office by mail or in person. The cost is $10.

NOTE: Brides, be sure to have your name changed in Social Security records.
Contact any Social Security office. Look in the telephone book
for the address and phone number. You will need documentary
evidence showing both your old name and your new name.

license requirements often change. The
