We can perform a traditional unity candle
ceremony- the most popular
option. However, we don't recommend an outdoor candle
ceremony as the candles either will not light or will not stay lit.
Unity ceremonies that work well outdoors include sand, wine,
water, hand-fasting and flower ceremonies. |
|
We can provide a
silver heart unity stand for your use,
if you ask us to do a unity candle
ceremony. We can also provide candles, or you can
provide your own. To order personalized candles, see
left side panel. |

Unity Candle
Ceremony #1:
(A great way to include the Moms) |
|
Before they are seated at the start of the
ceremony, a member from each family (usually the mothers of the bride and groom)
each light a taper candle, signifying their love for the bride and
groom. These candles are on either side of the unity
pillar candle.
After the exchange of vows,
the bride and groom each take their family's taper candle and light the unity
pillar candle together, symbolizing the united love of the
couple, and unifying the families as one.
Minister: (Groom's Name) and (Bride's Name),
as you take
the flames from two separate candles, representing your families
and your individual lives, know that the center candle you are
about to light is a candle of marriage, symbolizing the light of
your love. It is a candle of unity because both must come
together, giving a spark of themselves, to create the new light.
And it is a candle of commitment because it takes two people
working together to keep it aflame.
You may now light the candle.
May you love deeply and laugh much.
May you see many sunrises, and enjoy many rains.
May you dream together, and value the little moments.
May you continually discover each other,
and may your love grow,
as you share and listen carefully, open heart to open heart.

|
Unity Candle Ceremony #2: (unity
of bride and groom) |
|
The bride and groom each light their own candles,
then together light a center unity candle.
Minister: (Groom's Name) and
(Bride's Name), please light your candles.
The candles you hold represent your individual lives- all you
are and have been up to this moment;
as you light the third candle and put out your own,
your two hearts, bonded by love, will become one.
Please light the
center candle, to symbolize the union of your lives.
As you have
lit this candle today, may it be a symbol of your commitment to
each other, and may the flame of love in your hearts continue to
burn brightly always.

Christian
Unity Candle Ceremony: |
|
Minister: (Groom's Name) and (Bride's Name), you have
exchanged vows declaring your desire to be united as one, in a
Christ-honoring marriage. As you enter marriage, may the light
of His presence in your lives be seen as a light in the
darkness.
As you now take the flames from two separate candles,
representing your separate lives, and blend them into the one
center candle, representing the unity of your live together, may
God make of your hands one hand...of your hearts one heart...and
of your lives one life.
May your union be forever blessed.

|
Unity Candle Ceremony Variation:
(includes all your guests) |
|
All guests are given a candle. The first candle is lit.
Guests pass the flame until all are lit, and then the bride and
groom together light their unity candle. This variation
symbolizes the unity of friends and family supporting the
couple's marriage. |
